Size: Winged subterranean termites are typically about 3/8 an inch (.95 cm) long. Workers will be smaller, and there will be variations in size between species.

Appearance: black or dark brown color of the body in the winged variety versus the white color of worker termites.

Habitat: Depending on the species, termite nests are found underground, in dead trees and stumps, in the tops of live trees, and in wooden structures.

Potential Harm: Subterranean Termites and Drywood Termites are primarily responsible for damage to human-made structures and can be highly attracted to sources of light and are most active in springtime. After mating, these termites locate a new breeding site and create another colony, spreading infestations throughout multiple locations.
